Editorial Policy

This policy describes how HomeSafetyLab content is produced and maintained. It applies to every diagnostic guide, brand hub and category index on the site.

1. Sourcing

Technical claims are based on manufacturer documentation (installation guides, user manuals, service bulletins) and on public safety guidance from recognised fire safety bodies. Where a signal is model-specific, the guide names the model or model family instead of generalising. Sources are listed on the page when a public citable source exists.

2. Safety-first ordering

Any content that touches smoke, fire or carbon monoxide must put the safety decision first: evacuate and call emergency services when there is any doubt, and only then troubleshoot. Guides never instruct a reader to silence, ignore or permanently disable an alarm that may be reporting a real hazard.

3. Review cycle

Every guide carries a visible last-checked date. Pages are re-reviewed when a manufacturer changes a beep or light pattern, when a model is discontinued, or when reader feedback shows a step no longer matches current hardware. The last-checked date is updated only when the content itself has actually been verified.

4. Corrections

Reported errors are checked against the manufacturer source. If a correction changes a safety recommendation it is published as soon as it is verified, not held for a batch update. Report an error at contact@homesafetylab.com.

5. Automation and AI assistance

Drafting and maintenance of some pages is assisted by software, including language models, for structure and language. Technical content is checked against source documentation before it is published, and a page is not published when the source cannot be verified. Pages that exist only to target a keyword, without an answer that differs from the pages already published, are not published at all.

6. Monetization independence

The site earns from affiliate links and display advertising. Commercial relationships do not determine a diagnosis: a guide recommends replacing a unit when that is the safe answer, even when a cheaper part would earn more. Affiliate links are marked as such and the affiliate disclosure explains how they work.

7. Scope

Content is general information for homeowners. It is not a substitute for your device manual, a licensed electrician, a certified fire protection technician or your local fire service.
