Terms of Service

Last updated: 4 October 2026.

These terms cover your use of HomeSafetyLab. By reading or using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

What this site is

HomeSafetyLab publishes troubleshooting guides for home safety devices: smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, security cameras and safes. The content is general information written for householders. It is not professional advice, and it is not a substitute for the instructions that came with your device, for a qualified electrician or fire safety professional, or for the emergency services.

Safety comes before anything else here

If an alarm is sounding and you cannot immediately rule out real smoke or carbon monoxide, leave the building and call the fire service. Do not use this site to decide that an alarm is false before you have checked. Our full position is in the safety disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.

Using the site

Outbound links and how we earn

Some links to retailers carry an affiliate identifier, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. Some pages also carry advertising. Both are explained in the affiliate disclosure. We do not control third-party sites and we are not responsible for their content, their prices, their stock or their terms.

Accuracy and changes

We research our guides and state the date each one was last checked. Devices change, manuals are revised, and manufacturers sometimes contradict themselves between their own pages: we say so when that happens rather than picking an answer. Even so, we cannot promise that every detail is correct or current for your exact model. Product prices, availability and specifications are set by the retailer and can change without notice.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from relying on its content, including damage to a device, property damage, or losses that follow from a decision you made after reading a guide. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Privacy

What we measure and which third parties are involved is set out in the privacy policy, which also forms part of these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the operator of this site is established, without removing any protection you have as a consumer under the law of your own country of residence.
